Why foldable changes your freight math

Empty rigid packaging often arrives at a local warehouse first and sits on racking until a sales schedule calls for it. That space costs money. A foldable box collapses flat, so more empty packs fit in each shipping carton. The real comparison is not box unit price. It is how many empty packs fit in a carton, because that number drives storage and freight.

When you compare storage options, state the basis clearly. Count cartons of empty packaging only. Exclude bottles, pallets, aisle space and container void. Volume reduction is not the same as freight cost reduction. Local assembly labour must be counted too.

Three checks we run on a physical sample

A 3D render will not show you the failure points. We check three things on an actual folded sample. First, creases must not crack the board. Greyboard weight and crease depth have to match, or the fold line fails. Second, magnet position is held within plus or minus 1 mm. Third, corners must sit at 90 degrees when erected. If a corner is off, the insert will not seat.

We also check whether the insert's bottom tab fouls the side wall on erection. If it does, every unit needs manual correction on the line. We adjust the tab profile and print the assembly sequence on the reverse of the insert.

How the foldable structure is built

We use greyboard at 1200 g minimum, with 1400 g recommended for spirits. Facing paper is 157 g minimum specialty or coated. No recycled greyboard, no high-moisture paper. The fold lines are creased to match the board weight, so the box folds flat without cracking and erects square.

The closure is a magnetic lid-and-base or drawer style, depending on your product. Magnets are positioned within plus or minus 1 mm. Handles can be added if the box needs to be carried.

Inserts that hold the bottle at four points

A foldable box still needs a secure insert. We use velvet trays, EVA foam, blister, or paper mould. The rule is simple: the bottle is held at four points, with no unsupported neck or shoulder.

Our in-house checks include a 10 second shake test with no bottle movement, a 45 degree tilt with no slide, and an inversion with no release. Insert tolerance is plus or minus 1 mm, box body plus or minus 2 mm.
